David ChinHo Shin

ChinHo Shin earned a PhD in Biological Neuroscience at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) and worked as a researcher at the KIST Neuroscience Center, pursuing scientific inquiries into human cognition and existence. He later developed a profound concern for lives shaped by social marginalization and structural violence, and co-founded an international NGO with like-minded collaborators, initiating field-based humanitarian work.

Since 2007, he has documented sites of social injustice—including war, poverty, discrimination, and human trafficking—through documentary photography. Using the camera as a tool of testimony, his work brings unseen individual voices to the international community. Beyond documentation, his practice focuses on revealing human dignity, survival, and narratives buried in silence.

He is currently engaged in long-term documentary projects, including Unheard Voices, which examines the lives of civilians affected by the civil war in Myanmar; Unbroken Roots, documenting Dalit communities in India; and Unseen Chains, portraying women living in Kamathipura, Mumbai—the oldest and largest red-light district in Asia. Through these projects, he sheds light on the most marginalized and overlooked spaces of our time.

His solo exhibitions include Gallery Cafe (2010), Photobook Gallery (2017), and Ryugaheon Gallery (2023). In 2025, he was invited as a featured artist to the Daejeon International Photo Festival. His works are held in corporate collections, including Sandoll Communications and Rightbrain.

In 2023, he published the photobook I Look Myself Through Those Who I Looked and was nominated for the Documentary category of the Royal Photographic Society. His work has since received international recognition, including First Prize in the War/Conflict category at the 2024 New York Photography Awards and First Prize in the Editorial category at the 2025 Tokyo International Foto Awards (TIFA).

Shin ChinHo)

I look myself through those who I looked를 출판했으며, 같은 해 영국왕실사진협회(Royal Photographic Society) 다큐멘터리 부문에 노미네이트되었다.
